Experience Corps Tempe: Improve Literacy One by One

The Experience Corps literacy program in Tempe is the result of a partnership among Tempe Connections, the City of Tempe Social Services division and the Tempe Elementary School District.

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with kindergarten through third grade students at four Tempe Elementary School District sites during the school day or during the after school enrichment program. The average commitment is four hours a week throughout the school year or at a minimum per semester.

There are also a few stipend positions available to adults 55+. The averages weekly commitment for stipend volunteers is 10 hours and the stipend is approximately $160 per month.

Volunteer tutors need no special skills, just a desire to make a difference in a child’s life. Volunteers will receive pre-service training, school site orientation, ongoing support and additional training throughout the school year.

Introductory informational breakfasts are held periodically throughout the year to identify new volunteers. If you would like to be notified of our next breakfast, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
